The personal information you provide in this application is being collected by the Department of Customer Service (the Department) on behalf of the Building Commissioner NSW. The personal information you provide in the different parts of the gateway may be used for the following purposes:
- To register you for the gateway and provide you access to the services offered
- To process payments of the relevant fees in accordance with the type of plumbing and/or drainage work being conducted
- To ensure the plumbing and/or drainage work conducted is compliant with the requirements of the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011 and Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2017 as well as the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA).
- To update any of the details you provide through the gateway, such as your registration information, audit inspection details, or alternative (performance) solution details.
The responsible person for plumbing and drainage work is lawfully required to give Building Commission NSW notice of the work being carried out, including a proposed performance solution, provide a certificate of compliance for the works and a plan of the work, and pay the necessary fees for Building Commission NSW to monitor compliance with the Act. The consequence of not providing the Department with your personal information is that we will not be able to complete the relevant application or process your payment.
Personal information we collect
Throughout the gateway we collect the following information:
- Your full name, contact details (address, email and phone numbers), licence information and payment information.
- The information of third parties, such as an owner’s full name, address and email address.
- Additional personal information if it is required by the Department to support our Regulator functions and to process your forms.
How we may use this information
The personal information you provide the Department will be used for the purposes for which it was collected, including to liaise with you about the documents you submit as well as register the information and documents you provide in our system.
Your information will be stored and managed in accordance with the provisions of the PPIP Act. The information will not be kept longer than necessary for the purposes of which the information may lawfully be used.
We will dispose of your information securely by taking reasonably necessary safeguards to prevent loss, unauthorised access, use, misuse, modification or disclosure of your information.
How we may disclose this information
The Department will not disclose any personal information collected during any of the gateway processes to third parties without consent, or unless we are otherwise required or authorised to do so by law. Our Privacy Statement describes when this may occur.
